The Karin bone ...

Karin picked up the Mandolin while playing 'pin the tail on the musical instrument' in a music store. When she opened her eyes and saw what she was holding in her hands, a beautiful red mandolin, she just had to have it (this is also how she came to own a saxophone, a ukulele, a double bass and Scotty, her husband). That was only a few years ago and she is now the best mandolin player in the whole band! She specializes in exotic sounding ethnic music with lots of cool tempo changes. She brings her love of this music to her bluegrass playing and if you listen carefully, you can often hear the tempo changing when she plays a break! She sings harmony and is also responsible for making sure that the rest of the band have their capos on the correct fret at the start of each song. She is a true free spirit and many fans come to shows just to see which hat she is wearing!

is connected to the Scotty bone ...

Scott came to the banjo the same way most great pickers do, against their will. But after some initial adjustment (a 30% loss of hearing in both ears) Scotty took to the banjo like a fish to a really loud body of water. Scotty's banjo playing is the foundation upon which the band builds their inbred hillbilly, "from the heart out the nose" sound.
Scott is the defacto kapellmeister for the Crazy Bones String Band. Scotty arranges all of the harmonies and then painstakingly teaches them to the other members of the band, who then screw them up.

is connected to the Mike bone ...

What can you say about Mike and his fiddle? Nothing if he is playing it because nobody will hear you anyway!! Mike took up fiddle only a few years ago and he was determined to learn to play the fiddle so well that people would weep when they heard him. He is halfway there. Involuntary ocular discharge aside, Mike is heavily influenced by traditional bluegrass fiddling, especially the really old stuff that is not in tune, which he finds much easier to play for some reason. Mike has started dabbling in the banjo lately, much to his wifes relief (which says a lot about his fiddle playing) He also acts as the fashion coordinator for 3/4 of the band (can you guess which 3/4?).

is connected to the Dale bone ...

Dale is a bit of an anomaly in this band, because he can actually play his instrument, the double bass. Audiences are quick to pick up on this fact and every time Dale plays a break, or even tunes, he receives a thunderous ovation (which does not bother the rest of us at all, honestly).
Dale is also an avid microphoneophile, and he runs the
10,000 Cows Recording Studio out of his basement. The name is slight exageration since Dale actually only keeps 5 cows in his basement. Dale provides the sound equipment for the band, and if the band doesn't sound good they blame Dale ("How come you can't make the fiddle sound in tune?"). Dale is a good sport about this, and exacts his revenge by speeding up every song until the band needs parachutes to stop. Dale plays a wicked 'slap bass', which can be very exciting when the whole band is gathered around a single microphone and Dale's slaps get a little wild! Dale is also a member of the highly acclaimed band Widow Maker.
